Magic is a 50′ Pacifica Sport-fisher Yacht, powered by Twin C12 Diesel engines, offering a smooth and superior ride. She’s a meticulously maintained vessel and provides all the comforts of a home indoors with the following amenities;

  • Spacious air-conditioned cabin
  • TV/DVD and Stereo System
  • Microwave in common area, a place to eat, and comfortable seating
  • Private Cabins and beds, for those in need of a peaceful rest
  • Two heads (toilets)

Coast Guard Regulations for safety allows a maximum capacity of six passengers on Magic.

Captain Russell Tanaka: A Hawaiian Sportfishing Legend

Captain Russell Tanaka is one of the most accomplished and meticulous charter captains in Hawaii, commanding the vessel Magic. In 1995 captain Russell started the big game Sportfishing charter business named “Magic” With over 50 years of total fishing experience, he transitioned from commercial Ahi (Yellowfin Tuna) fishing to the charter industry in 1995. He is renowned for his quiet disposition, intense work ethic, and an extraordinary 90–95% catch rate. Every year he continues to bring in the most Ahi and notable catches within the Kewalo Basin harbor charter fishing fleet.

Legendary “Grander” Blue Marlin Catches

Captain Russell is the first captain in Hawaiian history to land three “Granders” (Blue Marlin weighing over 1,000 lbs). The Magic itself has hosted two of these historic catches:

  • 1,174 lbs (Caught onboard the Magic out of Kewalo harbor)
  • 1,106 lbs (Caught onboard the Magic in Lahaina Jackpot fishing tournament)
  • 1,032 lbs (Caught onboard the Mary I in the Pokai bay fishing tournament)

Some state records include:

  • Most Yellow-fin caught in 1 day (17)
  • Most Shibi caught in one day (47)
  • Most Blue Marlin caught in 1 day (5)
  • Most Striped Marlin caught in 1 day (11)
  • Most Mahi Mahi caught in 1 day (81!!)

Captain Victor Street: Expert Weekend & Holiday Charter Captain

Captain Victor Street commands the weekend, holiday, and relief charters for the “Magic” when Captain Russell is unavailable. He brings over 20 years of dedicated deep-sea fishing experience to the vessel. Mentored directly by legendary captain Russell Tanaka, adopting the same meticulous, high-standard techniques. Fully dedicated to delivering the same elite fishing experience and putting you directly onto the fish.

No matter which captain is at the helm, you are backed by decades of masterful Hawaiian sportfishing knowledge.

Gear Type: On Magic we use Shimano 130’s and Shimano 50’s with custom rods.

Charters: TYPE/TRIP DURATION/RATE (per charter)

  • Full Day Exclusive Charter +2 hours: 10-12 hours
    RECOMMENDED: You get two extra hours on fishing grounds. More time out, means a greater chance of catching fish!
  • Full Day Exclusive Charter: 8-10 hours
  •  “Keep Your Catch” Exclusive Charter: 8-10 hours
  • Full Day Shared Trip: 8-10 hours $425 (per person)
  • We are the only Charter company in Kewalo harbor that does not offer half day charters because, Our goal is to make our clients satisfied and If you are paying us to try and catch you a trophy fish then we do not want to cut you short of that trophy fish. By taking clients fishing for 4hrs it cuts the catch rate by 50%.

Fish Policy: Magic’s crew will clean/fillet servings for our customers upon return.

  • Full Day Exclusive Charters – Our crew will clean and fillet up to 40 lbs of whole fish caught, weighing under 50 lbs.
  • Shared Charters – Our crew will clean and fillet a 2-3 lb serving per person, from fish caught weighing under 50 lbs.

The captain will determine what fish will be cut by starting with the smallest fish and no fish weighing over 50 lbs. Those over 50 lbs. are taken to our local fish auction which sustains local businesses. This is also how your crew for the day earn a living. We want you to keep in mind this is a guarantee that they will hustle all day to get you onto some fish and not just going for a boat ride. – NO FISH = NO PAY for the crew.
